Reading of the vessel's draft mark

When winds are strong and waves are high at sea, it is very difficult for even an experienced surveyor to read the vessel's draft mark accurately.
In addition, if related parties such as shipowners, operators, and shippers from different positions are present at the same time, their respective interests will be entwined, so the measurement of the draft mark may be intentionally read deeper than the correct value, or it is read shallowly. In other words, it means the differences in personal error. Furthermore, if there is a large difference in level between the berth and the water surface, parallax will make it difficult to read accurate draft marks.
Therefore, the draft reading device has been developed to improve the above situations. By using this device, the reading of the draft mark will be the same figure regardless of any working environment and anyone reading it.

Now, check out the video below to see how this draft reading device makes a difference.

The first video shows the center draft mark from the shore side without using the draft reading device. Try your reading skill.

Case 2:

The next video shows the same center draft mark as above with using the draft reading device from the deck.

How is it? Did you understand the difference in reading?

The biggest advantage of this draft reading device is that the center draft mark can be easily and accurately read regardless of any sea level condition and parallax.
